HEALTH CARE

APF Health Care Program

APF Health Care Program is one of the first Priorities of APF. We started with this program in 1991 with a Volunteer Haitian Physician who came once a month to Fondwa to provide health care services to the people. During that time we did have also, some medical groups from the US who came once-in-awhile and worked with us for few days or for a week. In 1994, Sr. Marie-Carmelle Voltaire joined us as a Nurse and as the Director of the APF Health Care Program. In 2006, she was assisted by Miss Kerline Thermozier.

In 2010, our clinic facilities were destroyed during the devastating earthquake and Sr. Carmelle passed away in 2012. Since that time, Sr. Claudette Prévot was appointed as the Administrator of the Fondwa Clinic.

In 2017 with the help of Caritas Italiana in Haiti and APF USA, we started to rebuild the Fondwa Clinic with a limited Budget of US 190 K US out of US $ 1M2 needed. We have built already the foundations of the Clinic and one operational room. In the new Clinic Facility to be, we will have space to welcome patients, a small pharmacy, a space for maternity, for dental care, eye care and a surgical room. We will have also an apartment for the Fondwa Sisters who work in the Administration of the Fondwa Clinic and the APF Campus. There will be space available equally to host Visiting Physicians who would like to stay with us for a couple of days.

Since 2016 we have Dr. Elizabeth Brea Ferrari who joined us as the Director of the APF Healthcare Program. She brings with her 30 years of experience in the medical field from Venezuela and Canada. She was born and studied in Venezuela. She is a General Practitionner and a Gynecologyst. Dr. Elisabeth has a master degree in hospital management. With Dr. Elisabeth’s assistance, the APF Healthcare Program will be extended soon to the other rural areas in Haiti through the APF LDCs. But actually, our main need is to find financial support to complete the construction of the Fondwa Clinic.

If you want to join us also in this project, please let us know about it and we will send more information to you. Thanks a lot in advance for willing to get involved with us.

WATER AND ENERGY

APF Water and Energy Project

In therms of Water, APF already captured more than 20 water sources and provided access to drinkable water to more than 10,000 people in the Fondwa Community. Actually one of our needs is to make sure that the Fondwa families have water in their home including sanitation, water tank, shower and energy. We need a lot of financial help to make it happens. That will be also a way to help the families to create new income generating activities at their home, like hosting university students and other visitors. This is the same thing that we need to do with energy to make sure that some of the farmers have access to energy in order to increase their annual income.

If you want to join us also in this project, please let us know about it and we will send more information to you. Thanks a lot in advance for willing to get involved with us.

AGRICULTURE

Our Agricultural Program

As you know it, in Fondwa, Agriculture is linked with animal husbandry. One of the recent APF experience is to help the farmers to become Agricultural Entrepreneurs so that they can increase their income generating activities. We give to the farmers an investment package including: seeds, technical assistance and some money. We have put in place a structure to purchase back from them about 70% of their production and add values to it. In this process, the farmers reimburse to us the amount of money that we gave them when they sell back their harvest production to us. We did have a Food Security Project like that in 2013 financed by Caritas Italiana which was successful at about 75%.

Beside that, in Fondwa we focus a lot in reforestation because Fondwa is highly deforested. In the last ten years APF has planted more than 500,000 trees in Fondwa. We want to continue with this planting trees experience as much as we can. But, we do need more financial resources to move forward with it. We want to extend an invitation to our international visitors who are coming to visit with us in Fondwa to participate with us in our Reforestation Project by planting at least 10 trees while being with us in Fondwa.

If you want to join us also in this project, please let us know about it and we will send more information to you. Thanks a lot in advance for willing to get involved with us.

APF CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM

APF Construction Program

Fondwa was the epicenter of the 2010 Earthquake. 75% all of the Fondwa buildings were destroyed during that year and APF has lost everything. As a response to that, APF has set up a Construction Office in order to assist the Fondwa residents to build resilient houses safer and stronger, houses with international standards which can resist earthquake and hurricane. In that sense, right after the earthquake, APF did organize some training for construction workers in the area.

We do have also a small plant to make Concrete Vibrating Blocks. In 2012, we have opened also a Construction Store in the Community to help the people access the construction parts and materials. In addition, we have a Dump Truck of 7m3 which can facilitate transportation of construction materials for the people in the community.

If you want to join us also in our construction activity, please let us know about it and we will send more information to you. Thanks a lot in advance for willing to get involved with APF in the rebuilding up of the country

LOCAL RADIO

APF Local Radio Program

Our APF Local Radio Program (Radyo Zetwal) is one of the tools that we have been using since 1996 to provide information to the people, to educate them and to invite them to share their knowledge and experience with one another. It’s also a way to give them a voice in the society, to express themselves and to participate in the reconstruction of Haiti.

We want also to use radio station as the basis to organize Fondwa as the Wi-Fi City and a way to develop an internet hub station in the Community so that we can use the technology to get connected to the world and to provide more services to the people. Actually the Radio Station ( Radyo Zetwal) is located at the Campus of the University of Fondwa where we have a minimum access to energy, internet and the University Community ( teachers and students). Actually the needs of the Radio Station are many. In terms of funds available: equipments and other resources including international volunteers who can help us to reach our goals and objectives for the Radio Station.

If you want to join us also in this program, please let us know about it and we will send more information to you. Thanks a lot in advance for willing to get involved with APF in the rebuilding up of the country

LDC PROGRAM

Our LDC Program

APF Local Development Committee Program (APF LDC Program). This is a tool to rebuild the country from the ground up through the Communal Sections and the Local Grassroots Organizations. In order to set up the APF LDC Program, we work together with the Local Authorities (KAZEK and AZEK), with the professionals living in the community and the local grassroots organizations in the Community. The LDC is formed with those three entities. We bring them together to create the LDC whose mission is to identify existing resources in the community that can create wealth (Jobs and business opportunities) for everyone in the community. The way we accomplish that, is by selecting three High School Graduates from the community and send them to the University of Fondwa to study Veterinarian-Medicine, Agronomy and Business Management and to send them back home after graduation to work with the LDC members to create wealth in their home communities.

This is also a way to provide three specialists to work permanently in each Communal section of Haiti. The APF LDC Program is a powerful program that can help us to break the cycle of poverty and economic dependence in Haiti

.

APF EDUCATION PROGRAM

APF Education Program

Education is the top priorities of APF : We started with our Educational Program in 1993 with College Fraternite St. Antoine which has : Kindergarten, Elementary and High School. This School has about 750 students. Our school was destroyed during the Earthquake in 2010. We have been blessed by having 4 organizations which helped us to rebuild part of this School : Including Family Health Ministries, JDC(Jewish Distribution Center via Heart-To-Heart International), Partners-In Progress (PIP) and Fonkoze. All together, in 2011- 2013 they have contributed US $ 600,000.00 out of US $ 1M2 needed. That has helped us to build half of this School Construction Project. In 2019, we are still looking for the remaining part of US $ 600.00 in order to finish with the School Construction Project. If you want to join us also in this project, please let us know about it and we will send more information to you. Thanks a lot in advance for willing to get involved with us.

In 2004 we opened the University of Fondwa (UFondwa/ UNIF) for all of the 572 Rural Communities in Haiti. Its mission is : To educate young Haitians to create wealth in their home communities. We want to provide to each community of Haiti, a team of three specialist to work permanently with them. We have three schools : Agronomy, Veterinarian-Medicine and Business Management. Actually The University of Fondwa is a working University in rural : we link the work with the academic program. The students work two days during the week, one week out of two during the Breaks (Christmas & Easter) and work during the entire Summer (July and August). They do have 2 weeks of vacation from September 1rst. to September 14. This is a USA model of Working College that we are trying to replicate in Haiti, like Ozarks College, Berea College and Warren-Wilson College.

But actually, the University of Fondwa is operating in Sea Containers. We are looking for funds to build our UFondwa Campus. We are blessed to we have UFondwa USA which is helping us to support the teachers. We do need more resources to build the UFondwa Campus and to find also groups or individuals who want to sponsor our Rural Communities in Haiti by paying for three students: 2 girls and 1 boy, to come to study at the University of Fondwa.

If you want to join us in this project, please let us know about it and we will send more information to you. Thanks a lot in advance for willing to get involved with us.
